LPC-Associate Supervision

My goal as a clinical supervisor is to promote growth and learning. I believe that learning occurs within the context of a safe environment. Safety is created through trust built within the supervisory relationship. I’m supportive of supervisees while ensuring the needs of the client are prioritized. I provide structure and consistency to each supervision session and encourage supervisees to provide the content for each session.

I’m guided by a humanistic model that is person-centered and highlights the strengths of the individuals I supervise.

I have been in the field of mental health for over 18 years and have over 12 years counseling experience. I have supervised counselors-in-training and provided consultation to fully licensed mental health therapists throughout my career.

Additionally, I serve as a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Baylor College of Medicine. I previously held a position as an adjunct professor in the Clinical Mental Health Graduate Counseling program at Sam Houston State University. I take on a hands-on approach to teaching that focuses on providing students the tools needed to not only succeed in my courses but, more importantly, to grow from counselors-in-training to independently licensed counselors capable of self-supervision.

My passion of centering culture is very much evident in my supervisory relationship. It is my belief that culture is present in all aspects of our lives, we are always operating from one cultural identity, and, most often than not, we are operating from more than one cultural identity. Most graduate programs emphasize multicultural competence but, unfortunately, language is often left out. As a bilingual therapist (English/Spanish), I aim to provide enriching learning opportunities to supervisees who provide services in more than one language.
